Student Recruitment ActivitiesNote: Because the university places a heavy emphasis on student recruitment, our program has two committees that work together on this matter. See the report of the Alumni Advisory Council Committee on Student Recruitment for their work in student recruitment. The recent work of the Student Recruitment Committee that is headed by faculty and current students is described below. The IS Student Recruiting Committee has been involved in several projects over the past 6 months. Students and faculty joined forces this Spring to sponsor an on-campus recruiting event at the Union where we obtained the names of more than 40 interested students. A few of these students have applied to the MS program. We will sponsor this event again in the Fall and Spring this upcoming year. Also, the faculty identified five foundational courses that can be offered to undergraduates to provide them with elective courses for their undergraduate majors. This will allow undergrads to test out the IS program and hopefully entice them to apply to the MS program. The committee is considering innovative ways to market the IS program. In addition to updating the web site, we are creating new flyers to allow for quick and succinct delivery of our sales pitch which will be ready for the Fall semester. We are also working on creating an electronic marketing piece that will be delivered on YouTube that will catch the interest of students looking for a career in human performance improvement, instructional design, and online learning. Any willing alumni and students should contact me if they are interested in working on this project as a developer or to be considered for a cameo appearance. We have also been working with the Alumni Advisory Council Student Recruitment Committee and the Instructional Systems Student Association (ISSA) to coordinate all IS recruiting efforts. The Alumni Advisory Council has been a tremendous asset in supporting current recruiting efforts. We have been able to get their expert opinions as well as help in the strategic planning of our efforts. Also the ISSA has responded to numerous calls for help with various recruiting tasks, especially the Spring recruiting activities. We would like to give special thanks to Marguerite Foxon of the Alumni Council and Anne Mendenhall, ISSA president, for their efforts.
