Portfolio Guidelines for Students Who Entered the Instructional Systems Program
IN/AFTER FALL 2005
We are continuing to refine the guidelines and will be providing additonal support and examples to you. Check the website often and ask your advisor for any new information that becomes available.
The purpose of the new portfollio system is to help you prepare a portfolio that will assist you in your job search. You should begin working on your portfolio from the day you enter the program and use it to articulate the skills you'll need for your future job and to plan your coursework in the program.
For more detailed information about completing this task, please refer to the following:

Resources for Portfolio Preparation (for portfolio procedures after Fall 2005)
- Personal Goal Statement Outline (Word document) [Updated January 3rd, 2006]
Here is a suggested outline for a personal goal statement. Feel free to modify it as you find appropriate. However, keep in mind that there should be a clear alignment between your personal goals, key skills you have identified for accomplishing these goals and products included in the portfolio.
- Examples of Annotations (pdf document)
Each product or excerpt of a product you include in the portfolio should be accompanied by an annotation – a brief description of the purpose of the product, what competencies it signifies, and other information. Here are several examples (pdf) of annotations and artifacts from the portfolio that Dr.Vanessa Dennen prepared while she was still as a student at Indiana
University. Use these as your guide to the format and content of annotations.
- Example of a Master's Portfolio
The three files below represent a complete master's portfolio that one of our Master's students Eric Sikorski created in Fall 2005 in accordance with the NEW portfolio procedures. The portfolio consists of three PDF files - his resume, goal statement and portfolio with artifacts and annotations. It was developed to be a print-based portfolio. If you were developing an electronic portfolio, you would likely use a different approach for chunking and connecting the information. Pay attention to the organization of the portfolio. It is organized based on key ISD skill areas such as analysis, design and so on. You may choose to follow the same structure or devise your own, but you should think about a consistent way of organizing your work.resume (pdf)

Ediana Gomez
Portfolio created by Eddie Gomez, ODL online major. This is a good example of navigation.

This is an example of a portfolio that follows the new procedures by an ODL Major.

This is another new procedure example by an IS major.

The portfolio is entitled: A_Portfolio_Malcolm_Conway.exe. It works best if you download it to your PC and then open it. This enables the media, such as video of the author, to work without overloading your PC's 'temp' memory. The portfolio was authored using TrainerSoft.
